By having a Doctors referral letter you will receive a rebate from Medicare which we will process for you.
Diagnosis & Management Plans (Item 291) are available from Dr Bernardi & Dr Ip. This requires a longer initial appointment & a report outlining a management plan will be posted to the referring GP within 2-weeks. The GP then has the option to request 1 further appointment within the next 12 months if further assistance is required. This can be useful for patients on a mostly stable medication plan or those who’s primary care is not medication based. If your GP requests a Diagnosis & Management Plan (or Item 291) please specify this when booking as a longer appointment is required & the fee structure is different.
The referring GP & our Psychiatrist will need to communicate prior to the appointment being made to make sure this is suitable.
When the Psychiatrists are not able to take new patients or it is a long wait to get in to see one we recommend that you speak to your GP about other alternatives including the possibility of seeing one of our psychologists as an interim option. If you would like to explore non medication based treatment options this is often the best starting point.
When seeing a psychologist, Medicare legislation requires you to bring a ‘Mental Health Care Plan‘ from your GP as your referral.
